FW Alford's Steam Traction Engine, built 1910; this was a matter of a month after he had stripped it and re-built it in 1964. Watering up at Wherrytown.
I remember this well. Living in Carnyorth at the time we would hear the whistle as she set off, go up into the bedroom window to see if she was heading our way, watch her approach and then rush outside to watch her pass. I saw Alford s threshing set at St Buryan rrally this month. We used to take packed lunches to school when they were threshing at Carnyorth farm (in the yard since converted to apartments) and take our lunch up there to watch. This was the same threshing machine but in our day (late 50s/early 60s ) it was driven by a diesel rather than a steam tractor.
