Road markings

I'm unsure as to whether this is the place to place this but here goes:

Am I dreaming? In the 1960s I seem to remember the introduction of the double white lines in the centre of the road. Double solid lines or dashed on my side, solid on the other or solid on my side and dashed on the other carriageway. With the introduction there were very large roadside signs explaining the meaning of the lines.

Can anyone else remember this?

I am also of the opinion that the lines were introduced in West Cornwall first.

I'm hoping that someone can also remember this, if not, maybe I should book a room in a local home for the senile!!

Good question, i do remember the division indicating on which side of the road the driver should be; not being a driver I have not been aware enough ...
