Fish are spawning in a previously inaccessible river tributary near the Devon-Cornwall border after work to clear it, the Environment Agency says.
Staff from the agency have worked with local anglers to clear debris from the water on the River Tamar tributary at Coombe Bridge, near Lifton in Devon.
The £45,000 project was funded by local fishing licences.
It made it easier for fish to migrate further upstream, and salmon and sea trout were doing well, the agency said.
The passage of fish had been blocked by tree branches and other debris clogging a series of pipes near the base of a bridge on the Combebow stream.
Last year, the agency replaced the pipes with a new culvert and installed baffles to slow the water flow.
Fisheries officers said they had found an encouraging number of fish upstream since the work was carried out.
