Nearly 3,000 temporary public sector jobs are being created in the South West.
Both full and part-time collectors roles are being advertised by the Office of National Statistics for the 2011 Census.
A UK-wide census is held every 10 years and the information is used to plan future services.
The census director said the collectors would play "a vital role" in helping to create a snapshot of the nation.
The information compiled for the census is used to plan services like education, transport and health.
Central heating Since the first British census was introduced in 1801, it has been conducted every decade, with the sole exception of 1941 during World War II.
The 2011 Census will take place on 27 March and everyone in the UK on that day is obliged to complete it, or risk possible prosecution.
The questions cover ethnicity, the number of bedrooms in your home and what kind of central heating your house has.
It will also, for the first time, ask about "same sex civil partnership status".
Information about the jobs available can be found at the 2011 Census Jobs website.
