I have this picture in 'Penzance in Old Picture Postcards' (1982) a collection by dyed-in-the-wool Cornishman and Penzance man, Cyril Orchard. His script says, The 'Battle Field' 'Snow Queen'. This was built by a group of children at the bottom of Gwavas Street in 1906... The main author of this was one Edwin Nicholls, to the right of the Queen with his cap set quite high on his head, showing a thick crop of hair. There is also another young chap, Ernest Sherriff, his head nearest to the hips of the 'Queen' who was a former GWR engine driver. Edwin, the builder, died in early life not long after joining the Merchant Navy. Apparently, to maximise his use of snow, he used a dustbin and packing cases and formed the snow around them.
Most edificious.
Great co-operation as Treeve noted and interesting to hear what Cyril had to say; thanks for that tpp.
Another good post amongst many, .
