Penzance Dock Gates after being broken down by SS Norfolk Coast

Penzance Dock Gates after being broken down by SS Norfolk Coast
I know of the incident, first time of seeing this - Lowestoft vessel at quayside; The whole of the mechanism has been exposed with the loss of the stone.

Yes I thought you would be interested - apologies for the quality of the scans but the pictures have seriously deteriorated - I think my grandfather took theses himself. As there are loads of negatives I might get lucky!

Makes you look at it in a new light! Looks like it s prior to the dry dock as it goes further to the right?

If digital cameras had been invented then ... but they weren t and to have any picture at all of anything is both a blessing and a wonder, whatever the quality that we see now though out technological eyes. This is remarkable and don t you forget it.

I suspect the damage was caused during The Great War, as the SS Norfolk Coast was sunk in 1918, and the bill was rendered for the damage in 1921; I have to eventually check the files, and see the records in County Records Office, just in case there was a replacement vessel (as so often happened).
