Clearing the shops below the Post Office on Market Jew Street
I have to mention in this Picture...look at the old Woolworth sign!.....a picture to treasure........but what is the building or shop that is being pulled down?...My memory is not that good! sorry!...

You can just make out through the dust, DAVY, behind the scaffolding. There is a picture in this album of the shops here shortly before demolition. Davy wine merchants, Radbournes and St Dorothy Nurseries.

I must be too young to remember these....as the names are not familiar to me at all......sorry....but interesting pictures...as I have never ever seen any thing like this at all...SO THANK YOU!!! ::15:

The likes of Davy s shop will never be seen again, they were miracle workers. Every type of wine and spirits you could imagine. The wonderful signage over the windows and door.

This was a treasure of a shop. Fantastic old oak and glass counter and full of spirits, wines and tobacco. I remember this shop well. It was the only stockist of buttered brandy. ::1: I think it was demolished in 1985 to make way for the new Alliance and Leicester (then rivals to National and Provincial Building Society who later merged with Abbey to form Abbey National and then taken over by Banco Santander to form Abbey from Abbey National and Alliance and Leicester leaving the building free for occupation by Specsavers today)
I remember there was outrage from the people of Penzance that yet another building society was allowed to open in Penzance. The story hit the local papers and Penwith District Council decided to limit further applications of building societies for Penzance.
