The Green Market Penzance

Taken in 1860 this picture of the Green Market shows one of the few water chutes situated at the end of the building. This water chute was fed from the Causeway Head reservoir. There were only a couple of these chutes and none of the houses had running water like today.

The town had more than a couple of shoots, I am currently researching the water supply history of Penzance, and placing it all online eventually; At the moment I have a number of pictures online, but the rest is to follow over the next few months.

looking at the building at the left of the picture is the side of the building now thressher wine shop if so the buildings on the
right could now be the white lion pub and tregenzas fruit shop may be may not?

Au contraire, mon frere! This building on the corner was a draper s shop kept by a Mr Polkinghorne and demolished in 1922 for the Midland Bank (now HSBC). The pub was the Three Tuns Hotel erected around 1831. A brilliant old photo this!

Does anyone know where the Three Tuns Inn the Shoulder of Mutton Inn both once of the Greenmarket were situated?
