Shop in St Clare Street

This picture was supplied by Rose Hichens (Dairy shop St Clare) of Mrs Bernice Pearce 10 December 1973. Today its been converted in to a house. The shop was about three doors up from the Fountain inn on the opposite side of the road. You can see the reflection of St Clare flats in her windows.
I believe the hire shop was a couple of doors down (making it a lower shop, I suppose!). My brother bought and converted Pearce s shop in the mid 80s.

Right, I knew it was very close to there. the first time I hired tools was from Gerald, a nice bloke shame he died so soon after retiring.

I also remember Bernice, you could buy a single Woodbine, a pint of vinegar, or a bundle of firewood, no shops like that around now.
