Old Public Baths gone. New Public Baths have been built (Oliver Caldwell design) at the end of The Esplanade; to the centre Beachfield Hotel, a little to the right and Bodilly's Steam Mill, barely showing now is Alexandra Terrace. Two charabancs are on the road. Two policemen on the Promenade nearby, it was not such a rare sight in those days. A large paving has appeared on the Promenade walking surface. It was around this time that two further changes were happening, pressure was beginning to bear from The Queen's to stop the beach being used as a fish landing and net drying place (nasty smells dont'ya know, what?) and it was realised that the sand was drifting; groynes were added.
The beach was part owned by private enterprise up untl 1922. A description of 1929 states there was sand all along the beach.
