What did you do BEFORE PICTURE PENZANCE came along?

well now folks....just a quick run down (nothing interesting I'm afraid) on what I did before Picture Penzance (pp) came along,
Ebay, watch TV, the usual housework, cooking, shopping etc (all of which I still do)duh

Picture Penzance was born as you all know in Jan 2008 and I for one am addicted to this site! (especially now theres arcade games to play also!!)lol
It brings such joy knowing that we bring a smile to so many faces, and the odd jem of a picture that pops up from time to time, or an article/topic which raises many an eyebrow or two! or the debates/harbour development for one has brought in very many interesting questions/observations and has highlighted for me, that there are so many different people out there, with their own opinions and outlook on life in general.

Also another reason for this post/thread also, is that in this bitterly cold weather a member had asked for help,snow#1 and if this site wasn't around, it got me thinking what would of happened? (I know the member in question will read this at some point, but it does beg the question)
I know we are using Facebook also (for promoting pp) but facebook is NOT the same as pp nothing like it & will never come close!

I'd like to think of this website as a community/your're website so I for one would like to hear what you did before Picture Penzance came along, and what would you do if Picture Penzance finishes?

love to hear thoughts people!! xx::15:

Indeed kept busy tracking down history and ships, rather keen to help worldwide with family members of those that lost their lives in conflict and work and after a while it became a website, until then I had been involved in architecture which extended into many areas of disciplines .. it has been an investment of a passion and being able to do this for others has been productive and educational. Now I am in a position that I need help desperately. I am so very lucky to have been fortunate in the choice of this PPz site forum and members have been more than helpful ... the forum replaces all for me, as well as giving me a community yet the research continues and is a bolster for me. It has been recorded just what has been my experience on site.

Thank you for your reply Treeve, your input has been very valuable and I for one have enjoyed reading your comments, threads, (some more than others I have to say) I am glad that we have started Picture Penzance and to be honest would be lost with out it!!

I think we still have a lot to offer our members & above all without them, thats you included this website would not be what it is today!!::15:

For myself I was doing a lot as musician as well as my day job, went thro a period of divorce and a couple on enforced moves, just as I settled and music slowed down, along came pp and since then has become a part of my life in which I have made some more friends and also revived some old one so thanks pp. ::15:

I'm still doing pretty much now what I did before PP came along. I work for myself and from home and I'm in front of a computer most of the day, so it's easy to take a break, check the site and see what's going on so it all fits in nicely with my lifestyle - PP became an added interest.

I would really miss the site if it wasn't there. I've met some great people and I love the sense of 'community'. It also re-kindled my interest in photography plus in my early days as a member, it was great to go through all the old photos on the site and if I had any questions about Penzance, there was always someone who could help out with the information I was seeking or point me in the right direction.

'Tis a fine site indeed and I'm very happy that I'm part of it all. Been a bit slack on posting recently due to family and work commitments - but hope to be able to rectify that soon.

I have one contribution....... We are family!
Its been an interesting journey where I have met some fantastic personalities, great friends and learned a lot about myself. The strong community that we have is a testament to the true friendship we all share.

...........and the Arcade? tt13 crap pc
I missed PP last week when the lightning damaged our router. I tried to watch TV but I'm not a big fan of that, looked through a couple of books but couldnt get interested. I did catch up on the ironing though. duh
I cant remember what I used to do before PP, it depends on the time of day too as my work keeps me busy. I like the Chatbox, theres usually someone there to have a laugh with and always someone to say Good Morning to, eh sparky?

Ah yes, missp - the Arcade! I always made a point of not entering that as I knew what would happen if I did! But, while the site change over was going on, I thought, ah, why not, just play a few games and that will be it! Haven't played for a while - though did notice SOMEONE has nicked my Curveball cup. Not sure if I can just sit back and let that happen .....!::11:

Before PP, I used to edit my enormous collection of photographs that nobody ever wanted to look at in my family, so PP gave me an opportunity of displaying them as well as putting me in touch with some really nice and some very knowledgeable and helpful folk, all with different backgrounds, characters and talents. I feel it's like belonging to a town-based club. People take from it, and contribute to it in their own way and there is a good mix of things to entertain and provide on-line and off-line socialising. I'd be very sad indeed if the site should ever fold. I also like the fact that it has become a valuable reference tool which was something I was particularly hoping it would become. The only downside is that I am sometimes too thick to find my way around the site!duh

Nobody wanted to on here either, but you forced them upon us anyway

You know I don't mean that, Phil - I just couldn't pass up such a glorious opportunity lol

A great site in many ways, made all the better by differing views on subjects. I realise that some of my posts contain "Rantish" words, but I have been enlightened by others responses, which surely is the prime objective of a local site. The folk on here are a cross section of our community, and I take my hat off to the Admin for starting it. I spend a fair bit of time on the internet, and have yet to come across a friendlier site anywhere.
I still continue my Ebay searches, (previously an obsession) but can always come here should I need cheering up, or have something to rant about. Hopefully you folks keep going, there's a freedom of speech here that is hard to find on most local sites, thanks is hardly enough.

Rant in A major imminent.

Just wanted to say "THANK YOU" to everyone who has commented in this thread and it has made me realise that not only have we created something from nothing, but the way this website has brought members together, some who havent seen each other in ages, others who have joined and realised that alot of their old school friends are on here, also it is a very good reference site as one of the members has mentioned, and we have made alot of new contacts/friends since starting this website.
we are a very friendly bunch on here, and I know there have been a few glitches along the way when we have upgraded, but all in all, there is something for everyone on here, and hopefully after Antlers#1Christmas & New Year celebrations are out of the way, we would like to start some fundraising events to help the website continue.::15:
