It's only Words

1969 and well ahead of Time.
Just going through the King Crimson collection at the moment. There are some remarkable Lyrics to be heard. 21st Century Schizoid man bites like ragged shark's teeth in bare raw flesh, but the words of Epitaph are so in step with the times it is as if a great bell peels from the tower on the hill.
The wall on which the prophets wrote
is cracking at the seams ....
Will no one lay the laurel wreath
As silence drowns the screams ....[it just sends chills up my spine].
The words of Court of The Crimson King are nothing less than inspired
The Keeper of the City Keys
Put shutters on the dreams
I wait outside the pilgrim's door
With Insufficient schemes ...

Anyone else with Lyrics that have taken you unawares?

Peace

I am the ocean
Lit by the flame
I am the mountain
Peace is my name
I am the river
Touched by the wind
I am the story
I never end.

Peace is a word
Of the sea and the wind.
Peace is a bird who sings
As you smile.
Peace is the love
Of a foe as a friend;

It contains the very Sufi thought ..

Searching for me
You look everywhere,
Except beside you.
Searching for you
You look everywhere,
But not inside you.

Peace is a stream
From the heart of a man;
Peace is a man, whose breadth
Is the dawn.
Peace is a dawn
On a day without end;
Peace is the end, like death
Of the war.

Spite and Pride fall to dust.....

The Letters:
With quill and silver knife
She carved a poison pen
Wrote to her lover's wife:
"Your husband's seed has fed my flesh".

As if a leper's face
That tainted letter graced
The wife with choke-stone throat
Ran to the day with tear-blind eyes.

Impaled on nails of ice
And raked with emerald fire
The wife with soul of snow
With steady hands begins to write:

"I'm still, I need no life
To serve on boys and men
What's mine, was yours, is dead
I take my leave of mortal flesh"

One of Peter Sinfield's last lyrics, as he left KC in 1972.
Be careful what you do, be careful what you say.
Brilliant piece of writing that.
With a pen you can destroy all that you have.

King Crimson

I have been asked as to how many albums King Crimson made.
And since it is Crimbo ... here we are ... 14 official, although some would say 15.
01 In the Court of the Crimson King
02 In the Wake of Poseidon
03 Lizard
04 Islands
05 Earthbound [official Live album]
06 Lark's Tongues in Aspic
07 Starless & Bible Black
08 Red
09 King Crimson USA [official live album]
10 Discipline
11 Beat
12 Three of a Perfect Pair
13 Thrak; Dinosaur was an 'official' but merely was an alternative Thrak
14 Contruktion of Light
There are many, many unofficial live releases on mp3,
as well as tens of 'compilations'.

The Sanitation Collection Operative

Just to take the lyrics to a deeper level of consciousness,
I would ask you to consider the hidden Jungian thoughts behind this ...

Oh, my old man's a dustman
He wears a dustman's hat
He wears cor blimey trousers
And he lives in a council flat
He looks a proper narner
In his great big hob nailed boots
He's got such a job to pull em up
That he calls them daisy roots
Oh, my old man's a dustman
He wears a dustman's hat
He wears cor blimey trousers
And he lives in a council flat
I say, I say Duncan
I 'er...I found a police dog in my dustbin
(How do you know he's a police dog)
He had a policeman with him
Oh, my old man's a dustman
He wears a dustman's hat
He wears cor blimey trousers
And he lives in a council flat
I say, I say, I say
My dustbins full of lillies
(Well throw 'em away then)
I can't Lilly's wearing them
Now one day while in a hurry
He missed a lady's bin
He hadn't gone but a few yards
When she chased after him
'What game do you think you're playing'
She cried right from the heart
'You've missed me...am I too late'
'No... jump up on the cart'
Oh, my old man's a dustman
He wears a dustman's hat
He wears cor blimey trousers
And he lives in a council flat
He found a tiger's head one day
Nailed to a piece of wood
The tiger looked quite miserable
But I suppose it should
Just then from out a window
A voice began to wail
He said (Oi! Where's me tiger head)
Four foot from it's tail

Oi!!!! :D

Great Deceiver

Makes a change from ...
Cigarettes, ice cream, figurines of the Virgin Mary
Cigarettes, ice cream, cadillacs blue jeans
In the night he's a star in the Milky Way
He's a man of the world by the light of day
A golden smile and a proposition
And the breath of God smells of sweet sedition

Simply HAD to have another basin of Larks' Tongues, first

Great Deceiver has some biting lyrics,
exposing many of the distasteful creeps in modern 'life'.

Starless & Bible Black has such beautiful music and poetry,
Starless & Bible Black refers to another of the giants in my experience, Dylan Thomas

David Cross (on violin; from Plymouth) swirls like a hawk or floats on high like the lark ascending .... heaven
