Wharf side demolition 1932

In 1932 the demolition of the Penzance wharf side began. Where Holman’s dry dock and work shed stands now was the home for the American Lamp Oil company tank and lots of little businesses. The Abbey Warehouse still stands here todays but the Co-Op coal yard and other buildings were demolished in the name of progress
I have to be honest nor do I. I have made the assumption that this oil is used for boats and house and street lamps, but that is just a guess.
I'll do some digging and see what I find :)

It turns out the the American Lamp oil company may have been the first to supply petrol to the town. The Royal Daylight brand is a fine petroleum used for lamps and possibly running cars too.
First orders were being taken by Sampson R Taylor's of 44 New Street Penzance in March 1891
