This picture was taken in 1975. St Johns hall was constructed in 1867 and a princely sum of £1,300.

More like a target ... mind you it is about time there was something in this town to aim at.
 
Wow £1,3oo! It was started in 1864, april the 27th I think. Designed by the great John Mathews. It was opened on 10th September 1867. In the forecourt there used to be a massive granite fountain 12ft in diameter.It now stands across from the out door swimming pool in the St Anthony Gardens at the east end of the prom!!!!
 
It is indeed; the building is also reported to be the largest one of granite in the UK, others are not entirely granite, although they may be larger.
