A couple of weekends back, we passed a small group of people at the bottom of Alexandra Road with a Support For Heroes banner. I stopped and chatted with one woman and it turned out her 17 year old grandson had been cycling down from John O'Groats with a group of friends to raise money, and they were there to wave them on as they made the final leg to Lands End. I found this heart warming on two levels - one, for what they were doing and two, not all teenagers are tarred with the same brush. Good for them.
Quite, a point I have made for years; the 'newsworthy' are the sad muppets that cause mayhem; the real youngsters hardly ever are newsworthy; this is more a reflection on media, and that moulds consciousness on all levels. Good one.
Good for the group of teenagers....they obviously all love bike riding!! wonder how much they raised? I think it is brilliant when little groups of volunteers do something like this, and I think that if they wish to publish it more, or get more people aware of what they are doing/raising the money for, than this is the place to do it.
If I had my camera with me, I would have taken some pics, or if I had been more on the ball, I would have mentioned the site, but I was left with such a feel good factor talking to this woman, it all went out the window! It certainly set me up for the rest of the day.
