Scillonian (II) and Queen of The Isles
St Mary's harbour in September 1965.
The picture is rather 'rough' but that was often what we got from cameras and film on overcast days.
There may well be others of these two at quay. I have not seen them.
Queen of The Isles began service in April 1965 and was Laid Up early 1966.
Despite early criticisms, she went on through various owners until stranded in a storm on the Solomon Islands 1997.
Scillonian (II) was introduced 28th March 1956. Sold off May 1977, and after major service in The two Channels, Orkneys, Shetlands, Mediterranean, The Atlantic and Mediterranean again, she eventually sank in 2004.
When you hear of ships being declared as at their age limit, do not believe it.
