Good one, S! It reminds me of one of my father's reminiscences about his time working in the Indian Raj when, living in a chummery with colleagues, all the waiters seemed to skip, hop and jump over a certain section of the floor as they served residents. The residents tested the floor and found it alarmingly hot so they got a pickaxe and a few other implements to investigate the source of the burning and lifting the floor, a pungent smell was released. A beam in the floor which had been smouldering for weeks was nearly burned through! Tracing further, they found that the normal fuse had been replaced by part of a stout safety pin but who could have done this foolish thing they never did discover.
