The 'Lump in the Ground' at Nancledra and shown among the Mystery Pics with different view from the accompanying picture is shown admirably by this diagram seen recently in a local Cornish museum.
Interesting diagrams but I think that more "men" are needed! My grandfather used to do this type of work in the wheelwright's with Howard Carmen, Carmen Square, Heamoor. The heated iron hoop is placed over the wooden wheel and then cooled rapidly with buckets of water to contract the iron and prevent it burning the wood.
