Seaweed Mountain

Washed up by the recent storms
Beaches used to be piled like this, ready for horse and cart to take it to the fields. It was harvested. It is no wonder visitors complain of the smell and the flies ..... but, it goes with the territory, sea = seabirds, seaweed, boats, diesel fuel, nets .... perhaps we should get some councillor to spray them with his Brut?

My dad used to collect it for the garden - and I did too when I was living at home. Great for all the birds you see hopping around trying to scoop flies up. Golden sand is great but I love the natural look of our beach, but I can understand why it can be a tad off putting for holidaymakers. Still, I can remember when sewage was pumped into the bay - the rock pools would be littered with toilet paper and 'objects would be seen floating in the sea. Now that was grim.

Glad you like the photograph.

When a complaint is levied at a hotel that 'no one told us there were fish in the sea, it was quite unnerving', or, 'we had no idea there would be seagulls doing things from the sky' .... a little common sense and understanding is required.

I was cycling around the island, l'Ile de Batz, opposite Roscoff a few years ago and came across large 'haystacks' of seaweed used to store as fertiliser on the fields. They looked like giant Christmas puds!
