Treneere prefab 1946

Nr 65 Polmeere Road, Treneere Estate; The new prefab(ricated bungalow); 1946. Walls of asbestos-cement sheeting with insulating fibreglass quilt sandwich. A temporary solution to a housing need, the bungalows simply lasted. It was a warm enough house, though noisy when it rained. For us it had the advantage of having a back garden that ended on the bank of the Chyandour brook, we made a bridge across to Trannack Farm, Farmer Wallis was very friendly, and encouraged us to visit.

Remember when the Jeffries lived at Trannack Farm as my mother used to work their every day so used to cross the bridge to get to and from work!

Higher Trannack farm is also still there, and I believe, still in the Jeffries family. The Wallis Lower Trannack Farm is now hidden behind trees and the re-routed river. Quite a trek to see it again.

Donkey s breakfast - that was what we called the wall panels because we believed they were filled with straw. I lived in a prefab for a while 1978 - 80.
