Took less than a year, I think. Back in the days when The Promenade was considered an asset and that it was important to keep the sea out of Penzance. But, a little too much 'cleaning up' and too much additional pebbles dashed on the shore, later admitted by Mr Tresidder (Borough Engineer) but .. hind sight is easy. At least we had someone who acted for the benefit of the town without having to check in his book of rules.
He ordered tons of shingle, in a shingle minded fashion, to be dumped on the far shore, by the Lariggan Brook outfall. Because of the currents brought about by the Bathing Pool and the North pier of Newlyn, it only moved laterally across the shore and out to sea, some of it has piled up the beach with disastrous effect. I have a copy of his comment somewhere.
