St Anthony's Gardens, Penzance

One of several old postcards that show St Anthony's Gardens as they were more than thirty or forty years ago perhaps.
Would I be correct in saying this is after the Ash Wednesday storm and rebuilding of the prom?

Correct, look at the sea wall 'above' the coach, leading to the new 'slip'.

Thought so. This means this photo is definitely after 1962. When was rebuilding work completed?

Took less than a year, I think. Back in the days when The Promenade was considered an asset and that it was important to keep the sea out of Penzance. But, a little too much 'cleaning up' and too much additional pebbles dashed on the shore, later admitted by Mr Tresidder (Borough Engineer) but .. hind sight is easy. At least we had someone who acted for the benefit of the town without having to check in his book of rules.

What do you mean 'too much additional pebbles dashed on the shore'? Rubble left to become pebbles?

He ordered tons of shingle, in a shingle minded fashion, to be dumped on the far shore, by the Lariggan Brook outfall. Because of the currents brought about by the Bathing Pool and the North pier of Newlyn, it only moved laterally across the shore and out to sea, some of it has piled up the beach with disastrous effect. I have a copy of his comment somewhere.
