ZU'RIEL 1907 - Mousehole, 17Mar10

I have this up here as well, with the same question. Zu'riel was the leader of the tribe of Israel that looked after the Tabernacle. I have asked in the shop and others but know one knows, I have even resorted to the Web, but no results so far, simmerin away on the back of the hob...

It is clearly to do with a Synagogue or other meeting house. It is too late for most of my reference material.
Does anyone know of a local Rabbi?

From previous research King Soloman appointed each leader/head/father of the tribes of Isreal to be responsible for minding the Tabernacle. If anyone has reference to that appointment being given to a particular tribe I would be very interested.

Zuriel can also be used as a Hebrew girls name. The meaning of the name is `The Lord is My Rock`

There were so many Christian sects and, of course, Jewish synagogues down here that one might suppose that, as you seem to imply, there was some form of prayer room, temple or church in these premises or else the religious domicile of some leader. Surely some evidence will come to light.

A lady is writing a book on the history of Jews in Mousehole, I have just emailed her, either she knows and is aware of the building (she was down here in 2008) or she will be interested and able to help. She is primarily writing about the Jewish Children that were evacuated from London to Mousehole in WWII.

Just had a thought ... if this was a Hebrew meeting house or even Synagogue, why is it dated A.D. 1907? That is rather open to the acceptance of a Dominus.

Good point! Mind you, I suppose Jews in the world probably accept and refer to dates A.D. as it's part of worldly western culture wherever one goes. Do you know of countries where people refer to the year in other terms? China with their different calendar? Muslim countries?

Used there not to be Obadiah and Ebenezer Chapels which were just break-off Methodist/Baptist sects down here in Cornwall?
