Camellias 7 Feb., 2005

These beautiful camellias were found in the Churchyard, Gulval. Whosoever may know the botanical name of this species, let me know, please. And who knows whether it's 'camelia' or 'camellia'? Camellias originate in China, I learn, and are seldom hardy enough to succeed well outside the South West of Britain.
I have seen a picture of a similar variety of which it is said, The influence of C. x williamsii can be seen in the pink, relatively flat flowers of Camellia ‘Leonard Messel’ however, these flowers are not flat at all. It is one of many reticulata varieties of camellias.
