Preserved Class 52 diesel-hydraulic locomotive D1068 "Western Reliance" prepares to depart Penzance station after a brief visit on the 5th of April 2008. The fleet of 52s (74 of them in total) were once the mainstay of BR's Western Region until they were replaced in the mid-70s by (mainly) Class 47s & 50s. The majority of the 52s were scrapped - just 7 now remain in preservation.
