Battery Rocks 1914, blockhouse and limekiln.

To the right is the Lime Kiln Yard, owned and run by Francis John Cornish opened in 1872. The lower section of wall was built in 1839. Above the wall at the far right can be seen the remains of the kiln itself. On the other side of the buildings is a row of small tenements, part of the housing courts. At beach level, access to the road level was via a narrow roofed stone stairway, between the yard wall and the adjoining smithy. The battery surround remains as the lower part of the War Memorial base.
