Aeolus

Aeolus is a 30 square metre Skerry Cruiser designed by Knud Reimers and built in Sweden in 1989 by Jansson and Zarins. Uffa Fox tried to establish the class in Britain in the 1930s but was interrupted by the Second World War. Her former owner, Tony Walker raced her briefly in the 30 square metre class at St Mawes, but the class has dispersed in the UK. There are now only two 30s racing regularly in UK, both of which are travelling to Sweden this August (by road and ferry) to compete in the Skerry Cruiser Centenary Regatta at Stockholm. Around two hundred Skerry Cruisers of all sizes up to 150 square metres are expected to attend the Regatta, with between thirty and forty in the 30 square metre class. 30s are sailed in Australia, USA, Norway, Sweden, Finland, Holland, Denmark, Germany, Hungary, Austria, France, Switzerland and South Africa as well as UK , so it will be a truly international event. The present owner has owned Aeolus since 2006 and has raced her in Mounts Bay Helford and Falmouth and cruised to the Scilly Isles. She is raced with a crew of four, but two is enough for pottering and is currently trying to practice as often as possible, to enable her to put up a good show in Sweden, although he doesn't really expect to be at the front of the fleet, due to the lack of class racing.
