Abbey Slip 2006

Taken in October 2006 looking across the causeway at Abbey basin. The car has a sticker in the back window that say small person on board...... should it say lifeguard in boot? I once drove a Citroen BX across this causeway in similar circumstances and the waves pull the car towards the edge. I miss judged how deep the water was and the water poured in the doors. A swift change of underpants later and I was back on the road... Sold the car after as it rusted through. By Halfhidden
Not something I would risk without a DUKW (amphibious vessel)! Great photo! Was it set up?

In fact, the little yellow sign says, Naughty person on board! I see! Perhaps more appropriate?

Good thing the Citroen didn t go in - you wouldn t want to be had up for polluting the turning basin!

Well, not being a purist, I don t know if it s a DUKW but we still have an amphibious craft which carries about 40 called the St Michael which tends to keep breaking down when it shouldn t!

It is just that Lord St Levan had one when we were working over there, and had ocasion once to be carried on her; also travelled on the tunnel railway , an experience.

You ve taught me something here! I didn t realise you could travel on the tunnel railway ( The Dreckly Express !). I thought it was purely for non-human cargoes!

Not supposed to, it was just that I was interested in just how it worked, besides we had to deal with the upper level. I suspect that HSE has taken over; I know Lord St Levan used to travel in it despite being told not to do so. We did some work on what I believe was called the Jeep House; the DUKW that was there then was a genuine original machine.

The original DUKW was replaced some time ago by a more modern machine - just don t ask me to name the make, model, reg. number, driver s girlfriend s name etc!
